You’re much too clever.
It’s killing you.
And you know too much.
Someone’s coming to take you.
Pull you off the side walk,
and kidnap you in your dreams.
So hide in your sleep,
And run while you’re standing.
They’re coming to get you,
And we just can’t win.
To the world we are villains,
But villains are heroes too.
We parade the forgotten,
For an invisible audience,
We keep life in order,
And love in the air.
We are the heroes of chaos,
But they’re just too clever to see the truth.
So don’t look at me with deceiving eyes.
I cannot bear the thought of returning it.
Your every gaze is degrading,
And I feel as a peasant amongst kings.
I’m a hero of a sinking ship,
Just one of many a few.
Don’t look at me with your lying eyes,
I am no worse than the white light,
And no better than your thoughts.
We are all but dreamers in the end.
Don’t be too clever to see the smoke and mirrors.
When it all clears,
The memories are all you have.
She smells just like a memory of spring.
She looks like the first day of June.
Sweet as the wind blows.
She talks just like the movies.
Butter through her teeth.
Tomorrow tells her history,
Today had long been settled.
She lives in a dream.
A place not far from here.
Where the world is different.
Where colour fills the air,
and we swim through a spectrum.
There we will meet,
and chase away time.
She will never grow old,
and things will always stay the same.
Here in this space of fantasy.
We are two, and two are we.
